Hidden gardens and stone walls

We drove west to Pavenham where my 3xgreat grandparents John and Eliza Brazier  lived before they emigrated in 1855. It is a pretty little village with stone buildings and narrow streets, hardly any people.  I am fascinated by the thatched roofs on some of the cottages, giving them a smooth organic curve like hobbit houses.

Bedford, where 4xgreat grandmother Elizabeth Brazier was gaoled for a year for bastardry, is a bustling regional centre and we didn't spend much time there.

In Cambridge we parked on the outskirts and caught a park and ride bus to the city centre. The Visitor Information Centre sold us a map with a self guided walking tour.  12,330 steps later we had discovered the stunning walled gardens that are hidden behind the high stone walls of Christ's College and Emmanuel College, and sat quietly in St Bene' Church which dates back to 1025 and is the oldest building in Cambridgeshire.
