Lost and found

We drove to Dromore in County Down where my Armstrong and Graham ancestors came from.  They emigrated to Australia in the 1840s.  We couldn't find any graves and the ruins of the old church in Dromore were fenced off for safety, but it was an interesting drive. There were more sheep and lambs than we had seen before.

So we went to Gortin Forest in the Sperrin Mountains and did a couple of walks.  It's a lovely spot but the pine forest was native to America and the deer were native to Japan.

It seems as if a lot of the original native forest has been cut down over the centuries.

When we were having lunch at Gortin I realised I'd lost my phone so back we went to Gortin Forest. June searched the trail unsuccessfully but I was able to use her phone as a WiFi hotspot for my ipad and found an email telling me the phone had been handed in to Omagh police station. Back we went to Omagh to collect the phone,  and made it back to Avis by 4 pm to return our car on time.

Back at our hotel, June persuaded me we should walk along the River Foyle and over the Peace Bridge to the city centre.
We had dinner at the River Inn (established 1684). Then we visited the Guildhall (built 1887, burned down 1908 and rebuilt, bombed in 1972 and rebuilt again) which has a magnificent 3,132 pipe organ and stunning stained glass windows.

And walked home again. I did 23,952 steps today.
