Seventh cousins and pipe organs
Today's highlight was meeting my seventh cousin once removed, Moira, and her husband, Joss, for afternoon tea in Dereham. We met through another cousin, Joan, who lives in the US. Moira and Joss are lovely. Joss had a business repairing pipe organs before he retired. There are very few pipe organ repairers left now. June's cousin Gwynn plays the organ and June and I were talking about this just yesterday at one of the churches we visited.
We visited Oxburgh Estate this morning. It's a brick manor surrounded by a moat. The original house was built in 1482 and, as our tour guide explained, was added to (not always feliciously) by later generations. The Bedingfelds were Catholics so there's a priest hole. The family still lives in one wing of the house.
