Wind, rain and river

I have lots of East End ancestors since today's plan was to explore the Tower Hamlets. Bethnal Green is a less privileged part of London and it was also raining. We made it to St Matthews Church which luckily was open and welcoming. It is an 18th century church, very plain, bombed in 1840 and rebuilt.
We decided to escape the rain by visiting the British Museum but there were very long queues, so instead we walked to the river via the Savoy, the Waldorf and Covent Garden.  We caught a cruise (with commentary) that went from Westminster Bridge to Greenwich.   It was a great way to see London while resting my very weary legs (19,417 steps today)

At Greenwich we visited a bakery , the Queen's House, the Observatory and an astronomical photography competition at the National Maritime Museum.  I straddled the 00 00 00 Greenwich meridian.
We made it back just in time to collect our laundry and are now having dinner in a lovely local pub called The Mitre.
